Organization Is Important
· People who heard a well-organized speech believe the speaker to be more competent and trustworthy.
· Strategic Organization: Putting Speech together in a particular way to achieve a particular result with a particular audience.
· Good organization links to critical thinking.
· Three basic parts of speech: introduction, body and conclusion
Main Points
Number of Main Points: Should not be too many.
Strategic Order of Main Points:
1. Chronological Order: follows a time pattern
2. Spatial Order: follows a directional pattern
3. Casual Order: shows cause-effect relationship
4. Problem-Solution Order: first points deals with the existence of a problem and the second main point presents a solution to the problem.
5. Topical Order: divide the topic into logical and consistent subtopics.
Tips for Preparing Main Points
· Keep main points separate
· Try to use the same pattern of wording for main points
· Balance the amount of time devoted to main points

Three major kinds of supporting materials:
i) examples
ii) statistics
iii) testimony.
